LiDAR wet hire
We see and appreciate that whilst many service providers are eager to enter the Drone LiDAR space, it can be an expensive and daunting venture. Meeting the CASA qualifications also takes time.
To help with this we offer our ‘Wet Hire’ service. This opportunity can lead to dry hire rentals and purchasing of equipment. Regardless we always enjoy getting out in the field, flying drones with our partners!

Our intention is to partner with you in entering the LiDAR drone space. Our Wet Hire option is intended to be a great starting point. This can extend to 1-2 days in the field, this is not intended as a method to collect thousands of hectares.
Whilst we work together, we can train you on all aspects of the process. This is an offer intended for Land Survey companies or at least those who can provide the survey control for the work in question and after delivering the collected data to their end customer, take responsibility for the deliverables.
For our Wet Hire engagements, we generally use a TrueView 515 or TrueView 540, a DJI Matrice 300RTK, our GNSS equipment, flight planning software, LP360 Drone software, our insurance and Repl and Reoc qualifications. Given this is a ‘Wet Hire’, we do of course also provide an experienced pilot who is very familiar with both our systems and your needs.
Once you have your CASA based requirements in place, you may like to move to a dry hire or you may like to purchase a TrueView system from us.
Many partners choose to engage in this Wet Hire service on an ongoing basis. This is certainly possible for smaller jobs and where the geography suits.
For work at a distance, we do have access to a large network of TrueView LiDAR owners. These operators may be interested to work with you. Please feel free to ask and we can make introductions where possible.
So regardless of your experience, future plans, or the size of the job in question, we have a solution for you via our various options.
Please feel free to ask us any questions that arise.

These are very briefly outlined below.
-
Your organisation needs to provide the survey control that is to be used and a relevant RINEX file.

-
You need to take responsibility for the collected data and the deliverable to your client.

Frequently asked questions
Which drone will be used during the Wet Hire?
We will generally use the M300RTK as it has various sensors and FPV camera which makes flying in varying terrain more safe.
Do I need to get insurance for the Drone or equipment?
No. We have various policies in place which cover loss and indemnity. We also have in transit cover in place for our equipment although generally this will be brought to site by our staff. You will need Pi insurance in terms of delivery of final data to your client.
What is the shortest and longest periods for a Wet Hire?
1-3 days. Our various partners who own a TrueView LiDAR system will no doubt be happy to partner with you on larger jobs.
Is the input required by your staff on site very challenging or difficult?
At a minimum your staff will need to highlight where the existing control points are and the details for these. Your staff will need to measure the various GCP targets that are placed. If your staff are to be present and trained on the various processes, this will certainly require more of their time and attention.
How much does it cost?
There are various elements to a Wet Hire and they are charged at different rates. This could involve mobilisation charges, a day charge for the staff and equipment and a post processing charge. Travel and accommodation is charged at cost. We can discuss this with you based on the partnering required.
How much notice do I need to give?
1 - 2 weeks would be ideal although if you have an urgent need please reach out to us. If we cannot assist, one of our partners may very well be able to assist. If your intention is to be trained in the use of this equipment, this is something that only GeoCue Australia staff would help you with.
Anything else?
Given the relationship with the land owner will be yours, you will need to obtain written permission from the land owner to fly over the property in question.
Helpful tips.
Before getting too deep into conversations with your clients in regard to what may be possible for drone based LiDAR data collection, perhaps enter the location into www.ok2fly.com.au.
In some areas, flying drones can be impractical due to their proximity to manned towers, military areas or for other reasons.
